The 11th Annual Minority Bar Conference will take place at the Illinois State Bar Association regional office in Chicago Thursday, Nov. 2, 2023. Topics discussed during the conference will include: the implicit biases of artificial intelligence against minorities; the legal career pathways available to attorneys – from transitioning to a new law firm and creating a succession plan, to winding down a law firm; the decriminalization of cannabis and how legislation has changed since 2019; and the racial disparities in the criminal justice system and the role of minority lawyers and judges in addressing the disparities.
Greenberg Traurig Shareholder Reena Bajowala will moderate the session “Artificial Intelligence and the Effects on Minorities” at 12:30 p.m. The session will focus on the bias against minorities in artificial intelligence (AI) when making predictions, and what engineers can do to minimize implicit bias when creating AI. Additional topics include: how AI works (in general), aspects of facial recognition to be aware of (including surveillance and privacy issues), and use of AI in the workplace.
