Please join members of Greenberg Traurig’s Data Privacy & Cybersecurity team for a 1-hour, CLE-eligible webinar “The New EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework: What You Need to Know and Practical Considerations” Aug. 15 from 12 – 1 p.m. ET.
On July 10, 2023, after years of negotiations between the European Commission and the U.S. government, the latest data protection adequacy decision for the U.S. was announced and took immediate effect in the form of the new EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework.
This means that U.S. companies may now self-certify their adherence to the new Framework’s principles in order to lawfully receive EU data subjects’ personal data for processing in the United States (or else must use another lawful transfer mechanism set forth in the EU GDPR).
Topics covered during the session will include the latest on:
- The effects, contractual implications, and likely challenges to the United States’s adequacy decision
- What the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework means for former Privacy Shield participants and U.S. companies considering participation now
- Current and next steps for UK and Swiss personal data exports to the United States
- An overview of the DPF Principles, possible enforcement priorities, and official “frequently asked questions” released to this point
